Comments: Dear Firefighters, My whole entire life was to become a firefighter i was about to join today at Azusa but i am too young i am 14 but my birthday is in october but i am glad that firefighters don't show there fear they go run into a burning building oooo thats rite i had saw a show called the ER yesterday on channel 34 or 36 on tnt or mtv but it shown when a firefighter had heared kids screaming n the mom had ran out of the building with her son n she had said there is 3 more kids in the building so 1 firefighter ran inside with all of his gear on and the other one said he can't get all of the kids so no one was ready yet so that guy ran inside witout any protection gear on and he had saved the 3 kids but there was a explosion inside the building while he was saving the kids and they had rush him to the hospital. They had to rush him into sergury and his buddy took exrays his buddy said don't take me away i want to now if my buddy is alrite the doctor said he would be alrite and than his buddy had said "i thought he was behind me tell him i said sorry please tell him i said sorry sorry sorry." when his buddy had heard the news when the doctor had said that his partner had 3 degrees burns about 85-90% of his body is burn so he would die in the morning because of all of the burn and blood lost that he would not survive and his partner said why does it had to be him sorry sorry to the doctor and than he went to his partner and said sorry sorry sorry sorry about the burns u had saved the 3 kids and the guy had said no you did but he had said no u did and than his partner had died that morning and his froup at the fire station was crying and his partner was crying too and they had made a memory for his life that he had saved the 3 kids for his life (tear tear). That was the sadess movies that i had seen but i am going to be a fireman that is my goal. Thank you who is a fireman.

Comments: My father recently retired from volunteer fire service, but what does retire mean when volunteering, not much, because whenever he hears the siren or the scanner go off he still jumps out of his sleep or stops what he is doing. See, he has done this for over 40 years, and still can fight fires with the best of them. He has had many ranks within the deparment even have moved from different state and when to visit the local dept and joined without thinking about it. It was a busy city fire department with much more calls then what he was used to. I just want to thank him for being a hero not just to me, but to our community. He has seen good and bad while doing this VOLUNTEER work, that if he would of been paid for it, he says he would stop, because it is not about the money, its about helping those in need. But thanks to him, I am here today, because when I was younger I actually almost lost my life, and he was there to help me, What a dad!!! I love you!

Comments: I too am familiar with what Jen from Helendale is talking about, however, I have a whole different perspective on the matter. It's a shame that she portrays this move as a bad thing. I know for a fact that constant coverage of a Fire Station with Full Time personnel is step forward, not a step backward. Even though her Husband has 11 years of service, the FT Captains that will be replacing him have probably that many years of Full Time experience or many more. I think I will take my chances with fully trained, fully qualified CO's whose only job is the fire service, over a PCF who shows up when he can and has many other things to worry about. I'm sure he does an excellent job within his experience, and now he can do an excellent job as an PCF Engineer or PC Firefighter. I would look at this as a Service Upgrade for the citizens of Helendale. Just my thoughts. Also, I would like to thank all of you who post here. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated by all of us Firefighters whether we are Volunteers, Paid Call Firefighters or Full Time Professional Firefighters.

Recently he found out that his supervisors are bringing in Full Time Captains to do the job that he already does. These guys will be getting paid triple what he makes and he will lose his ranking and be an engineer again. It is really hard on him being treated like this. He loves the rush, he loves saving people ESECIALLY SAVING PEOPLE and there MEMORIES. That means a lot to him. I was on the fire dept with him, I too love fire fighting but I was unable to make it to many calls due to us both being on and having young children, next year I'll be back on, and I can't wait to be back in it again. I can tell you though, that these MEN and WOMAN, are true Heros! I have the highest respect for them, there job is so dangerouse everyday there putting there lives on the line to save people, and to me that speaks for itself what great people they all are. My husband is a wondeful fire fighter, I admire him more than he'll ever realize its scary though, worrying about him, worried if he's ok while he's on the calls, wondering if he's going to come home from this call, all I can say is I do a lot of praying each time he's called out. These fire fighters really do a lot more than just physical work but a lot of mental work too, there just as affected by devestation as the people going threw it, my husband comes home very depressed whenever something goes bad, is affected for a long time from it, so I do want to say thank you to each and everyone of you for saving us all, you deserve more than you could ever get from anyone. Comments: I just want to express my graditude to our local fire department. I know first hand the tragedy of a house fire I lost two grandchildren in one. The fireman on that tragic day suffered my loss as much as my daughter and family. They risked there lives to save the children and did save two of the four in the home along with my daughter. However they don't only fight fires, I have a 6yr. old at home who had a seizure and stopped breathing, it was the fire department that saved my 6yr old, I thank God everyday they are right across the street. These men and women diserve Medals of Honor just as our service men. They are fighting wars of tragedy and fires of death every day. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

I thanked our local firefighters with several dozen cookies after the "OLD FIRE" which was so minor on my part. They deserve rewards daily. It would be nice for everyone to periodically take them some cookies or ice cream or cake or something nice to ALWAYS remember them and say thank you a million times. They are exceptional and are definately my heros. I love all firefighters!!!! Instead of actors getting hundreds of thousands of dollars for movies they make, they should get a fair salary and the firefighters should make the millions!!!!!!!!!!!!!Please continue to thank them year round.

Comments: God Bless All FIREFIGHTERS! Our home was lost from the Old Fire, arson set no less!!, firestorm on 25 October 2003. Firefighters from the Mentone area were able to save our neighbors home, but ours was just too far gone to save. We spent the next two weeks thanking every firefighter we could. They came from all over the United States of America! We LOVE all of our firefighters and thank them with all our hearts for all the homes they saved that day ... and everyday! God bless you all.

Comments: I just wanted to say thank you for 'literally' saving my home. The Old Fire burned some of our trees and came five feet up to our deck. Everyday I look out my back windows and see devestation, a complete neighborhood that was burned to the ground. I see people come back to what used to be their home and I feel VERY sad for them. He spent a week on the fire as a Strike Team Leader. We thank god for each day he returns to us. Comments: People often thank me and praise me for the work I do as a Special Education teacher,but firefighters are the brave ones. I can't stand when it is 90 degrees out and it has to be so difficult to withstand the intense heat you battle all to save somebody or something that may not have personal value to you.

I have spent a great deal of time during the past few years on photos and stories about wildfires and must say that I am proud to live in this community and to have met so many professional people willing to risk theirs lives to protect us and never once heard one of them complain about the job they were doing.

From Caltrans workers manning a gate hours on end without a break in blistering heat, to firefighters standing all day watching for burning embers or the firefighters climbing on terrain that is made for big horn sheep, I have not ever heard a complaint!

Residents wish to thank ALL Firefighters, the Forest Service, Federal, State and County workers, companies, individuals and volunteers who have ALL contributed so much in protecting us.
